Jonathon “Jon” McKannan is a seasoned biotech executive and chemist with more than 30 years of experience in chemical manufacturing, polymer chemistry, and cGMP operations. He leads Gannet Biochem’s Arab, Alabama, facility — formerly Laysan Bio, Inc. — where he oversees site strategy, technical leadership, and execution across a diverse portfolio of chemical and biochemical production programs.
Jon began his career in Huntsville’s biotechnology sector, contributing to DNA synthesis and oligonucleotide manufacturing at Research Genetics and Monomer Sciences. He later expanded into cGMP manufacturing and process development roles at Shearwater Polymers and Nektar Therapeutics, where he advanced through leadership positions guiding process development and technical manufacturing operations.
In 2006, Jon became President of Laysan Bio, Inc., guiding the company for two decades through sustained growth and specialization in advanced polymers and biochemical reagents.
Jon holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Alabama.
